MAC Sucks Big Dick.

This post was drafted many months ago... but it was shelved and forgotten, until I came across THIS post - which reignited my furious anger and reminded me why I drafted up the post in the first place.

Before any of you stevejobs OMGIWILLSUCKYOURDICKFORANIPHONE fanbois jump all over me preaching about how he is the chosen one and will SAVE US ALL and that I should burn in hell for heresy and desecrating THE ONE, I am not referring to Mac the product from the same manufacturer of the infamous white coloured piece of overpriced chip which hosts your music and video. I am referring to MAC the cosmetic brand.

So, why does MAC suck big dick?

Reason Number 1:
I've always thought MAC over overrated. Have you seen the printed ads for MAC? If you have, I am sure it is very very VERY difficult to NOT notice how gory and garish the models on their ads are. There is NO way in this life time, hell or heaven, will you EVER be able to pull their shit off in public without making babies cry, dogs growl, and everyBODY starepoint at you whispering among themselves wondering if you were a transgender stripper who's stuck in the 80s. The only WAY you can pull off their makeup and not have a mob throw stones at you is if:
a) you're a drag queen
b) ... working at a strip club
c) ... which has an ongoing 80s theme OR
d) you work at MAC

I mean come on, making up to look exactly like Barbie? Are you freaking kidding me?

Reason Number 2:
And has anybody noticed that MAC comes out with like a TRILLION different types of BRAND NEW LIMITED EDITION collections in a year? How many hues of orange, blue, red, pink, brown, purple blusher, eyeshadow and lipstick can there REALLY be?

so. What. Is. Their. Secret?

Packaging.

They use the freaking SAME set of colours and accessories for EVERY SINGLE COLLECTION. YEAR IN YEAR OUT.

Add some ribbons / frills/ patches / leather. Slap on the "limited edition" sticker and "while stocks last" and VOILA! BRAND NEW COLLECTION, SUCKERS!

I have to admit that the packaging (suckergirl's kryptonite) really makes me just want to OWN their stuff because it's a SO CUTE and I JUST TO HAVE IT - but I always managed to stop myself after realising plastic surgery costs just about the same.

Reason Number 3 and the BIGGEST REASON WHY MAC SUCKS BIG DICK:
Their sales assistant have the lousiest attitudes and make you feel like you're not good enough for their products.. which hey.. are pretty shit to begin with for that price you're paying for.

Once you enter the store every single one of their sales assistants SHALL critically evaluate you. YOU SHALL be stare at. YOU SHALL endure the sales assistants while they eyeball you from top to bottom. To Top. They SHALL NOT subtle about it.

Then they SHALL judge and classify you into 2 categories and SHALL serve you according to the category you have been classified under, ie:

Category 1:
You look like a million bucks
Who:
drag queens, people who wear as much makeup as the sales assistants (think of 80s pop stars), mistresses of Datuks, somebody Famous, Datins who drizzle in jeweleries just begging to be robbed, people wearing designer EVERYTHING.
Type of service:
Smiley, courteous, go all out to please you that even when you fart, they'll exclaim how it smells of jasmines and gardenias.

Category 2:
You DON'T look like a million bucks
Who:
EveryBODY else.
Type of service:
The stare, and the "Who the fuck are you, and what the fuck are you doing here " look.

And these are the MAC sales assistants with their 5 inch thick face painted bitches who overload on black "cross between goth smoldering and jack sparrow" eyeliner, "the IT clown meets Priscilla queen of the dessert" eye makeup, dripping "dolly parton look" lipgloss , crazy homeless people hobo hair.... and the women are even worst.

Stylish? Classy? Too good for everybody else? My ASS.

I know I'm sounding bitter (Fuck you MAC @ megamall), but I KNOW for a fact that every OTHER girls who has visited a MAC store were also treated the same shitty service, if not worse.

(This does not apply to some of the sales assistants at MAC @ KLCC - they are actually quite nice, and might get fired because it's probably not company policy to be NICE without prejudice.)

And that is why I'm NEVER stepping foot into a MAC store ever again.

Because I'm worth it.

....and the makeup on their sales assistants gives me nightmares.

(Ettusais, Skinfood, and every other friggin' Asian cosmetic brands ftw!)

  1. Dear FA - I totally agree with you on the attitudes of the makeup artists, the pioneer batch of make up artists fr MAC when it was first launched in Lot 10 10 years ago were much better people, in all aspects. Now they have absolutely no character and I'd say they are rude buggers. Hence I resort to my neighbouring country to buy the stuff, it may be slightly expensive but I certainly won't get rude buggers service!! Shall let those people from MAC international know about this..you should complain to them!! Let all the makeup artists ehre clean their act!

  2. well at least we know now what NOT to buy you. lets add it to the list.

  3. Yes! lets all boycott MacDonalds!

  8. The franchise in SG gives the same treatment to their customers too. Will only smile and be friendly when you flash some fancy credit cards.

The Makeup Artist shops have the most approachable, helpful and friendly store assistants.

  9. ohai! i have a black card, and i am off to Bobbi Brown bleh :P

  10. i love MAC colours and products to bits, but it's so true about the service. it's disgusting the way they once-over you and then refuse to do anything for you if you dont look good (or rich) enough to them. you're also right abt mid valley having the shittiest service of all the MAC outlets. lot 10 has the best tho.

okay lah we all go bobbi brown. or shu uemura.

  11. Why not walk over to the nearby Shiseido counter? There's usually one near a MAC stall, no? They are staffed invariably by pretty girls in pale make-up (no girly-men) who are polite and soft spoken. Admittedly, Shiseido may be one of the oldest brands you'd find in a Departmental Store, but at least it is Asian, so they should offer more suitable colour alternatives for you. No?

FA: Yah I heart Shiseido... among many, many other Asian brands. But that MAC store was a stand alone shop, not a counter lah...

  12. i was so happy when McD fcked big time not able to be in KLCC and Burger King sapu the lot. then burger king too having lots of outlet everywhere giving me one more option against McD. i hate the attitude, hate the decoration, hate the jerkoff patung Ronald too.

the masalah is only Msian dun like to change and McD has been deep rooted in most of our lives since childhood. u may boycott em, but ur nephew will want u to bring them there, your lame girlfriend too want u to bring them there, even old people also say "nvmind la. near near eat liao then go home la"

    FA: ???

  16. Hi pinkpau.
I went to mid valley too and they are so nice, friendly and helpful, but the SAs or makeup artist are no longer same.

The SAs are new faces now, very helpful. I recogn some SAs I found in 2005, long time ago also was there, she is nice and friendly.Cannot be bias? I went there only with shorts hehe.

  17. Wow, FA has been totally angry for a while now. What happened to the sweet, sensible FA?

  18. Never had problems with the KLCC MAC people. I love the salesgirl I met there. She took one look at me and in five seconds she picked out my foundation colour. Am sticking with MAC (for foundation) because tan skinned women have problems getting good foundation shades. For me it's either MAC or Bobbi Brown. Natural looking foundation for the win!

And their brush sets they sell at the end of the year are usually good value. But you hardly wear makeup anywaylah so no pointleh!

But ZOMG Bobbi Brown's pot eyeliner is the bestest thing in the universe.

FA: Yes I have to agree that MAC @ KLCC girls are pretty awesome. And their brush sets are really tempting... but what will I DO WITH THEM! Besides, I don't have the moolah. :) No pot eyeliners for me.. it's too dramatic. I'll end up looking like some opera singer. :P

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hi FA, did u get any complain from MAC? because u spoiled MAC image alot...and they already knew it. How could u do that? Is your unlucky...so unfair to other sincere nice makeup artist as well. your act so kid, and so unmature. Wearing eye liner doent mean u will look like opera..because u dont know how to use it so it make u look ugly. Every makeup artist have their stress, and u just walk in and wasted ppl time and dont know what u reali want to buy...make ppl frusted. thats y u get that services.

FA: Wow. I think it's pretty insulting for MAC to have supporters who can't even defend their favourite brand articulately. So THIS is the type of customers that the brand prefers? Thanks but no thanks forever. Anyway, just for the hell of it - DO feel free to check out the forums at www.makeupalley.com where you will find many people complaining about the same damn thing. Have a nice day!

  20. Am I be the only guy posting here? Anyway, I personally feel you've every right to discredit the MAC service and its products but as responsible blogging is concern need to be a little self-controlling.

Well, I hope MAC managers read blogs.

    - posted from an iPhone

FA: ooh shameless advertising of sorts. "posted from an iphone". gempak betul.

    ReplyDelete
  21. danny i think the manager got read blog,so like MAC-supporter said they knew it,anyhow i think they got take action to send in comment too,to cover themself and protect their image, some customer not really with talk about'2005 Sas or wat?'is pretty drama la,for me this is actualy to promote themself,at the same time got ppl like MAC and hate also,is up to u....
but very sure got ppl from MAC use this oppotunity to promote their so nice and so sweet........

  22. The Engrish seen in some of your comments makes me want to slash my wrists.

I dun unstand wat dey saying wor, how liddat?

FA: Makes me want to kill myself too. :(

  23. I've had to buy eyeliner from MAC before, for someone. The girls at the store seem to consciously try to move away when I want to ask them what the hell I am supposed to buy. Probably thought I'm some guy trying to perve on them.

I finally saw there was a slightly feminine guy there too, told him I have to buy black eyeliner, he asked me which one, I say I have no idea and could you help me with that, so he asked me a series of questions and ended up I got the right product.

    FA: Which outlet?

  24. I like act very kid fireangel. I also is likes the cheezberger at Burger Kings also.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I have to admit MAc girls GENERALLy seem to possess an attitude infused with airs they can hardly profess. Snubbed noses that hardly possess features to make a 'bridge'. Make-up looks wildly garish...enough layers to shame even Semi Velu.

Cant say much about their service though. Havent chatted with them. Doubt they would too, unless I'm with a girl. And I know they work on commission, and they have ridiculous sales targets that would embarass Ferarri sales persons!

I'd say the Traing Management Watchamacallit should read the above and do some serious re thinking. Perception is the currency they can't afford to do without.

MAC girls... where there's smoke...u know there's fire. Nothing wrong to accept some constructive criticism.

P.S. Sadly though, most of them have can't string a grammatically correct sentence to save their lives. Another point to consider. And you're an International brand!

    ReplyDelete
  26. wow,now the MAC sas is VERy NICE and so pretend coz they are super famous now........
they know they are in a big trouble...

  29. Every time I'm in KL, I'd make a point to drop by in a MAC outlet cause' I love their brushes and eyeshadow colours so much. But I do agree besides the products itself, the staff lacks any manners at all to properly serve customers.

That always makes me think twice about going in alone so I always have a boyfriend handy just to keep the eyeballing even.

    ReplyDelete
  30. boils down to training. i did work as a mystery shopper for a cosmetic company and my work was to write a report after going to those counters in a few shopping centres.

it was to catch them off guard. unless mac do this, i guess their staff's customer service will not improve

    ReplyDelete
  31. I cannot agree more with FA. Unless you have a lanky body or a Prada bag, these overly nose-in-air girls will only as much as look at you. Then walk off. They seem to think you're not good (read: rich) enough to buy their stuff.

I like the quality of their products, but it's the service that makes me use my products sparingly. Simply because I'd hate to go back to the store to endure a re-stock.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I just only read this, but my sentiments exactly. I wrote about the sales assistants at MAC, Gurney Plaza Penang too. Same arrogant attitude. Really, do these SAs think they're above everyone else just because they work at MAC? Geez. What a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I have to say the worst MAC outlet appears to be in Mid Valley. They personnel are invariably snobbish and think they are better than you. The worst of the lot is a Chindian (Chinese Indian mix)looking girl, shoulder length hair and fat looking, which she is! She was totally unfriendly and unhelpful. Definitely makes a very bad impression. If that is the representation that MAC wishes to make on its customers, then I'll have to say that their sales will definitely suffer. What is the management doing about it? Its so sad so see this coming from a renowned brand. I wonder if Mac International knows whats happening here in Malaysia.

    ReplyDelete
  34. actually i'm in fashion industry, the girl in MAC very snobbish, especially those malay and indian, for me is just working in the brand,is not your own shop, pls don act like so exclusive. I have a girlfriend work for mac partime also tell me MAC brand is crazy politic, the management like to create issue, and the permanent is always 'BULI' partime, grab their sales and cook then by the way. They pratice in that way,and a lots of unbelieveable thing u could ever imagine......

    ReplyDelete
  35. the MAKE UP STORE is coming soon at the GARDEN,the price is tempting and better service, product view is almost same with MAC,i know got some senior is plan to go there, but hope all the terrible staff in mac pls stay, don make tat new brand suck too........

  37. Try Bobbi Brown @ Megamall. Nice sales assistants.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ah, the wonders of the uppity Malaysians who work in big brand outlets and treat themselves like some kind of royalty. They are definitely far off from what the brands want to represent to their clientele. ;)

So the moral of the story is: Men who turn emo should NOT buy their eyeliner from MAC!

    (Sorry, stress gile now.)

  42. I love how Malaysians forget how SA's are suppose to act. Friendly, courteous. There's been so many moments where SA's are rude. Overseas, this kinda of crap is intolerable. People write letters, people complain.

In the US, MAC Cosmetics take every complain seriously. Freebies are sometimes mailed out as compensation for terrible service.

    Perhaps you should contact maccosmetics.com

  43. pls do that...maybe they might even check out this site for our responses and do the necessary...like screw those obnoxious bitches bony asses out!

  44. Hello there, I have to agree with you. The customer service at MAC Midvalley seriously sucks. Was contemplating to buy a lip colour palette from either MAC or Bobbi Brown for my mum's birthday. MAC had an advantage as the prices were lower. The minute I entered the store a group of lala-ish so-called make-up artists came towards me and started shoving their so-called 'limited edition' stuff in my face. The particular lip colour palette I wanted was out of stock, and this sales assistant kept insisting I buy the other one (the colours were brownish-orange. Like wth. You expect my mother to go around in those colours!?)

I politely declined and told her I wanted to look at their OTHER products. Guess what the sales assistant did? She threw her tantrum right in front of me by throwing the lip palette tester back into place and said

'You want to buy anot. Always saying see other things see other things. Don't waste my time if you are not going to buy.'

Been buying Bobbi Brown ever since.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I bought lip pallete at MAC MID VALLEY MEGA MALL just now.
All four colors are still on sales. Nothing is sold out.

If you wanted to get ´free gift´for some herrendous comments on the service I guess your cheap trick doesnt work. Try harder.

Been in MAC outlet in other country? Europe? America? I guess not, if you say the service suck.. try go to one with your Diva attitude, they wont even say
    ´Welcome´.

FA: .... and I shall pay for my sacrilege as they unleash upon me, a plague of a thousand furious fangirls with the English prowess of an unevolved protoplasma, to taunt me and taint my blog with their horribly written crap which nobody fucking gives a shit about.

  46. I often frequent a MAC counter here in a deparmental store in Adelaide, South Australia and suffice to say, most of the girls treat you in the same way. If I happened to be wearing very plain uni clothes and carry a backpack, no one cares what I am doing or looking at. But if I happen to be nicely dressed up, they come serve me at once and recommend me products.

I guess its a universal MAC thing as I've been to other counters and the makeup artists there are much much friendlier. If only MAC products weren't so appealing, I wouldn't have to frequent that counter so often!

    ReplyDelete
  47. aki,who is the artist, really so unmanner to say tat,it make ppl feel want to vomit, just a word'extremely terrible'
thank to the management and the manager, well train.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Happens here in Australia too. The cartoon extras- i mean, sales assistants, check out what sort of shopping bags you're carrying already (i.e. from which stores) before deciding if you're worth it or not.
I think it has to do with the fact that MAC's staff don't get paid on on a commission basis.
    They're all weird anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  49. when the brand will death, the sale is drop but not enough coz they deserve worst kama, due to wat they did....curse will keep staying with them
