Hey hey hey! Guess what I found hiding in the dark corner of my bookshelf collecting dust?
These used to be my favourite books in secondary school!
It's a typical story of college romances set in a local college setting, featuring real characters with real issues you and I can definitely empathise with. From what I can remember of it, it's VERY easy to read (no big words!), very clean (no raunchy stuff), very funny (local type of humour mah), very cute (can't stop smiling), and very heart-warming (am a sucker for happy endings).
But if you have never seen or heard about these books before, chances are :
1. you're not a girl
2. you're not from malaysia or singapore
3. you're too young or
4. you're too old
.... so go away.
Hahhaha just kidding.
Right now, I'm attempting to read Neil Gaiman's Stardust and Mark Haddon's The Curious Incident Of the Dog In the Night-time (I suspect Mark Haddon coins up all the titles for Panic At the Disco's songs).
Not exactly hardcore big girl's reading, but I'm still young. :)
Amalkanlah sifat suka membaca!
The dog one is nice, LOL.
ReplyDeleteBawled by cheebai heart out when reading the later part when all mysteries are revealed.
*majulah sukan untuk negara*
ReplyDeletethey said "readers are leaders*, so i religiously believe that FA can lead us to fireangelism.
curious incident is teh great, I wrote a review on that too.
ReplyDelete"Amalkanlah sifat suka membaca!"

Sissy Song wore jeans so tight the boys could not breathe.
ReplyDeleteYess! The Teenage Workbook is so much fun.
wah.. finally dusting the specks of particles that make people sneeze to reveal these treasures of your teenage past.
ReplyDeleteGood fer you.
Eh, I recommend Neil Gaiman's Smoke and Mirrors... if u want.. just holler lah!

ReplyDeleteSigh. The only book I am allowed to read these days is the Certified Systems Auditor Review Manual 2006. :(
ReplyDeletewow i actually have both those books too!! (i mean the teenage textbook and workbook) and i treasure them like mad cause they are seriously funny!!
ReplyDeleteThe curious incident one is nice, heartwarming stuff, much like Five People you meet in Heaven...I have heard a lot of good things about Neil...
ReplyDeleteYeah, great books when I have insomnia. Really helps!
ReplyDeletethe word 'sifat' just sounds so wrong FA :)!
ReplyDeleteDAMN I LOVE THOSE BOOKS.
ReplyDeleteThere was even a movie!! However Sissy Song in the movie was... Not Sissy-song standard.
Oh wells. these books never fail to bring a bittersweet smile.

ReplyDeletei've got those 2 books too!!
it's stuffed in one of 'em boxes..
Ohmigosh. Dang. I love reading and I've lived in both those countries, but I have never ever seen or heard of those books. Am I that old? Sigh. :)
ReplyDeletewait, WHAT? there was a MOVIE? eeh, but if not Sissy Song did not look like Sissy Song... eeeeh.
ReplyDeleteI wish there were more sequels. Farnee lah. Ooh, and I finally remember now -- it's Sissy Song, Mui Ee, Chung Kai, Kok Sean (or "kok thaaawn"), Daniel Boon, Miss Boon, Mr Miles...
No I don't have the book with me. I'm just not afraid of showing how OLD I am not.
i borrowed those two books off a girl i fancied in high school. heh, talk abt nostalgia. :p
ReplyDeleteHey I love Neil Gaiman! I've got all his books! Stardust is sweet and makes you sigh, Neverwhere is dark gothic and messes with your head, American Gods is an interesting twist on religion, and Anansi Boys is a 'what-if' story. :)
ReplyDeleteSmoke and Mirrors is a montage of Gaiman, I reckon.
Good choice! Recommend all those and Good Omens, where he writes with Terry Pratchett. :D
tak pernah nampak buku-buku tersebut.
ReplyDeletemebbe i was already into mills & boons at that time...
FA: for some odd reason I was never into M&B, but mum was CRAZY over it. ahhah.
its about time u read stardust... airhole : smoke and mirrors good? dude, u gotta be kidding!.. its a freakin ompilation of short stories... his best work is and will alwiz be sandman hence the motive for the tattoo on my left arm... FA : his best novel is either Neverwhere (brilliant - i have the bbc series on my harddrive too)... or American Gods... some ppl like coraline - but not my cup of tea... if u're a fan of neil gaiman.. u're bound to fall in love with Terry Pratchet and his discworld series.. the 2 did a book together.. called 'Good Omens'.. farking farnee book... anyhow if interested.. i have all books from these 2 morons... actually i have everything form neil gaiman in particular... comics, toys, movies, short movies, mini series,ec.. i even met the man in person during a signing... oh ya.. if u're reading stardust.. u shd read the graphic novel version... its nicer..
ReplyDeleteI want to do sex with you.
ReplyDeletefunnily enough, Ruben just summarised everything I've been preaching about Gaiman and Pratchett on my blog all these years in one comment. haha
ReplyDeleteNo big words, no raunchy stuff...what's the fun in that?
ReplyDeleteOMG. I must be living in a hole because I really have never heard of it. And I thought Bookworms was the best thing out of Sg.
ReplyDeleteHow about Sophie's World? An interesting book though...
ReplyDeleteMy sister shoved the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time in my face and told me that I had to read it. A friend had already recommended it to me, but I'm not big on books. I started reading, and I couldn't put it down. It took a day to read, and you've probably finished by now, right? The ending upset me a little.
ReplyDeletestardust is my fav gaiman novel but the sandman will always be my true love... good things are happenin in lucifer; a spin-off series...
ReplyDeletepanic at the disco got their song title's from chuck palahniuk's works.
